The StaRT-CABG Trial will recruit CABG patients in eight high-volume cardiac surgery centres in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) Germany. These trial sites include 7 academic Univerity-affiliated centres and 1 non-academic centre or the NRW cardiac surgery study group.The eight participating centres will recruit 2,630 patients over a 36 month recruitment period. This translates to a recruitment rate of approximately 2-3 patients per centre and week. The recruitment numbers are based on data from the internal hospital database from each participating centres and
adds up over 15,000 isolated CABG procedures for all centres per year. Participation of foreign centers is not intended.

The StaRT-CABG trial is initiated and organised by the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Heart Center of the University Hospital of Cologne. The sponsor of the trial is represented by the University of Cologne.
